Patson Daka Set to Return to Leicester City After Zambia’s AFCON Exit
Following Zambia’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), striker Patson Daka is expected to make his return to Leicester City. Despite Zambia’s loss to Morocco, Daka‘s return adds depth to the team’s attacking options.
While he may miss the FA Cup clash against Birmingham City, he is likely to be available for the Championship clash against Swansea City on Tuesday.
Facing World Cup semi-finalists Morocco on Wednesday night, Zambia, who drew both of their group games, needed a minimum of a point to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament. Daka led the frontline against Morocco, but a setback occurred when Hakim Ziyech, a former Chelsea player, scored for the opposition in the 37th minute. Zambia struggled and only managed two shots on target and ultimately succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.
Although the loss is a disappointment to Daka and Zambia, it comes as a positive development for Leicester City. The striker had been in impressive form before his international duty, featuring in the starting XI for the last six games and contributing four goals and two assists. His return aligns well with Jamie Vardy‘s comeback from injury, providing manager Enzo Maresca with three striking options after relying on Tom Cannon in recent weeks.
Although Daka‘s immediate impact might be uncertain, his presence strengthens the team, and the extended progress of Nigeria in the competition indicates that it will be a bit more time before Kelechi Iheanacho makes his return to the squad.
