PACRA Urges Artists to Report Copyright Infringement Concerns

The Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) has pushed it’s interest in addressing copyright infringement concerns surrounding the late Kalindula legend PK Chishala‘s music. The agency encourages artists who believe they are being exploited to file complaints with PACRA for possible action.

This comes in response to the recent revelations from PK Chishala’s wife, Harriet Banda Chishala, about the challenges she has faced in reclaiming the copyright ownership of her late husband’s music. She shared the difficulties faced by the legend’s children, emphasizing the need for support from their father’s intellectual property.

In addition to PACRA’s involvement, the Zambia Music Copyright Protection Society (ZAMCOPS) has affirmed its commitment to addressing copyright infringements related to public performances. While ZAMCOPS has been relatively quiet about bands playing others’ music without paying royalties, it emphasizes that its mandate to protect copyright remains active.

This marks a potential turning point for artists seeking justice and protection for their intellectual property rights in Zambia.
