Barbra Banda Claims Coveted Title As The IFFHS Women’s World Best International Goal Scorer for 2023
Barbra Banda, captain of the Zambian Women’s team (Copper Queens), has secured the title of the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best International Goal Scorer for 2023. This recognition marks her as the third player ever to receive this accolade, following in the esteemed footsteps of football legends Ellen White (2021) and Samantha Kerr (2022).
While Banda finished as the second-highest scorer in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shengli, it was her exceptional international performance that set her apart. The Zambian striker scored an astounding 15 goals for her national team, solidifying her status as the world’s most lethal markswoman on the international stage. Her goal tally surpassed even the likes of Spanish sensation Salma Paralluelo (14 goals) and last year’s winner, Samantha Kerr (13 goals).
Beyond an individual triumph, Banda‘s achievement underscores the escalating caliber of women’s football globally. The top 30 goal scorers comprise representatives from all five continents, reflecting the sport’s expanding influence.
Sharing her emotions on social media, Banda expressed, “Happy to be the third player to win the IFFHS Award of WOMEN’S WORLD BEST INTERNATIONAL GOAL SCORER in 2023.” She conveyed her pride in following the footsteps of White and Kerr, acknowledging them as “Women’s Football legends.”
Remaining humble like always and recognizing the collective effort that propelled her to this pinnacle, Banda extended heartfelt gratitude to her teammates, coaches, and fans. “Thank you to all my teammates for the service and the coaches for the trust and guidance,” she conveyed. “To the fans, thank you for always being there for us as a team. This is for all of you.”
Congratulations, Barbra! The world applauds your remarkable achievement.
