Mpika, Muchinga Province – The Zambia Pool Union (ZPU) is taking significant steps to strengthen the sport’s structure in Mpika District, with Secretary General Tesfa Shinkombwe leading a high-impact workshop on the newly adopted 2024 Blackball Pool Rules.
The event, which has drawn local stakeholders, players, and administrators, focuses on equipping participants with essential skills to organize and manage the Mpika District Pool League and tournaments effectively.
The training aims to standardize operations and foster professionalism in the sport at the grassroots level.
“This initiative is about empowering Mpika’s pool community with the right knowledge and tools to elevate the game,” said Shinkombwe. “Our goal is to ensure uniformity in administration and competition standards across all districts.”
Beyond the workshop, Shinkombwe will engage in strategic meetings with the Mpika District Pool Association Executive Committee and club chairpersons to align local development plans with the ZPU’s national vision.
Additionally, the ZPU Secretary General is scheduled to meet the District Commissioner and other government officials to explore partnerships that could integrate pool into public sports programs by 2025. Such collaborations could unlock new opportunities for funding and infrastructure development.
The visit has been met with enthusiasm from Mpika’s pool community, which views it as a crucial step toward formalizing and expanding the sport. With Mpika emerging as a key hub for pool in Muchinga Province, this engagement could lay a strong foundation for future growth and competitiveness.
