OYDC ZAMBIA TO ASSESS CHOLERA OUTBREAK BEFORE COMMENCING 2024 SPORTING SEASON.
OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Center says it will conduct a thorough evaluation of the Cholera Outbreak situation in Lusaka before initiating the 2024 sporting season for the youths.
In a statement, OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Frederick Chitangala said a decision regarding the commencement of the sporting season on February 3rd, 2024, will be reached on January 29th, 2024.
“Management at the Centre will continue to assess the cholera situation in the country to determine if the sporting season which includes the “Teulings Youth Sports Challenge” can commence as scheduled,” he stated.
Dr. Chitangala emphasized OYDC Zambia’s dedication to prioritizing the health of facility users and the broader Zambian community.
However, he has encouraged clients and facility users to book sports facilities and the lodge. But all users have been strongly advised to adhere to health prevention protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health.
As of January 5th, 2024, the cholera outbreak has left a significant impact, with over 170 reported deaths and more than 4,000 affected individuals in Lusaka alone.
