Chipolopolo Boys Captain Lubambo Musonda Anticipates Cameroon Friendly as Crucial AFCON Finale Rehearsal
In preparation for the impending Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, Zambia’s national football team, the Chipolopolo Boys, is gearing up for a significant friendly clash against Cameroon in Saudi Arabia. Skipper Lubambo Musonda expresses the importance of this match as a crucial test for the team’s readiness ahead of the continental tournament.
Speaking to The Zed Pop Culture media team on Sunday from the team’s training camp, Musonda emphasized the significance of the upcoming friendly: “The camp is going on well, and we are looking forward to our first friendly game on Tuesday. We want to see how far we have improved on what we want to achieve.”
Under the guidance of manager Avram Grant, Zambia finds itself in a challenging Group F at AFCON, set to commence this Saturday in Ivory Coast. The Chipolopolo Boys will compete with football powerhouses Morocco, Congo, and Tanzania in the coastal city of San Pedro.
Looking ahead to Zambia’s opening match against DR Congo, Musonda recognizes the difficulty of the encounter: “Of course, it’s not an easy game. Playing against Congo is always tough, like a derby for us. But we will make sure we prepare adequately and give it our all.”
As the team seeks to fine-tune its strategy and cohesion, the friendly against Cameroon is viewed by Musonda as a crucial rehearsal for the AFCON finale. With high expectations and a challenging group stage ahead, Zambia aims to showcase their readiness and determination in the upcoming clash.
